    The Most Common UTI Symptoms
    img

UTIs, or urinary tract infections, are a common health issue that can affect people of all ages and genders. While they can be uncomfortable and inconvenient, the good news is that UTIs are usually easily treatable with antibiotics.

    Types of UTIs:

There are different types of UTIs, each affecting different parts of the urinary tract. The most common type is a bladder infection, also known as cystitis. This infection occurs when bacteria enter and multiply in the bladder, leading to inflammation and irritation. Another type is a kidney infection, also called pyelonephritis, which occurs when bacteria travel up from the bladder to the kidneys. Kidney infections are more severe and can cause more serious complications if left untreated.

    Most Common UTI Symptoms:

UTIs can present a variety of symptoms, although some individuals may experience no symptoms at all. The most common symptoms include:

    1. Frequent and urgent need to urinate: One of the hallmark symptoms of a UTI is a constant urge to urinate, even when the bladder is not full. This urge is often accompanied by only passing small amounts of urine.

    2. Pain or burning sensation during urination: Many individuals with UTIs experience a burning sensation or pain when urinating. This discomfort is caused by the inflammation and irritation of the urinary tract.

    3. Cloudy or strong-smelling urine: UTIs can cause changes in the appearance and odor of urine. It may appear cloudy and have a strong, unpleasant smell.

    4. Lower abdominal pain or pressure: Some people with UTIs may experience pain or pressure in the lower abdomen. This discomfort is often described as a dull ache or cramping sensation.

    5. Fatigue and general malaise: UTIs can cause general feelings of fatigue and malaise. If a UTI progresses to a kidney infection, symptoms such as fever, chills, and back pain may also be present.

    Prevention of UTIs:

While UTIs can be common, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing one. Some preventive measures include:

    1. Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated helps flush bacteria out of the urinary tract and reduces the likelihood of infection.

    2. Urinate frequently: Don't hold urine for long periods of time, as this can allow bacteria to multiply in the bladder.

    3. Wipe from front to back: When using the toilet, always wipe from front to back to prevent bacteria from the rectal area from spreading to the urinary tract.

    4. Practice good hygiene: Keep the genital area clean and dry, and avoid using harsh soaps or douches that can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria.

UTIs may be common, but they should not be ignored. If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned in this article, it is advisable to seek medical attention and get tested for a UTI. TBD Health's Care Hub's in Las Vegas and Denver offer comprehensive testing and treatment options for UTIs, with a team of experienced healthcare professionals who can provide the care you need.
